A Friday smile and a scary cat

A very good Friday to all my blogging friends out there joining in with Annie’s smashing smiley shares. Want to join in then go visit A Stitch in Time for more info.
I hope my pic may make you smile this week too. Its of Lucy one of our cats who earlier in the year had to have loads of teeth removed bless her (she was a stray when we got her) Now she has only a couple of teeth left and when she yawns or meeows now she shows two fangs.  Fear not though she is a sweetie really. I managed to grab this pic of her the other day and you can just see a fang showing.
Beware the vampire kitty!!!  Ha ha ha ha ha ha (imagine evil laugh)

Friday’s smiles and feline harmony(ish)

Here i am joining in with another Friday Smiles hosted by the ever busy/happy/lovely/talented/funny Annie. Thanks for cheering up our Fridays.  If you fancy joining in her blog can be seen HERE
This is what made me smile this week
Meg on left and her son Tom cuddling up with each other again.
Ever since Tom was seriously ill and had to spend days in the vets back in April, Meg has either ignored him, growled at him or batted him. We’re not sure why but i reckon its her way of telling him off for disappearing and making her worry so much as us mothers tend to do.  However, she has finally forgiven him and they have fun chasing games again and snuggle up on the settee which is lovely to see.
Whats made you smile this week?  if you fancy sharing it then pop over to Annies blog and join in the Friday funnies.
Im off to look at more myself.

Good morning fellow desk snoopers. I have the day off today using up holiday so i can join in on time for a change.

For those of you who havent joined in before, shame on you where have you been. Simply click HERE to visit Julias lovely blog Stamping Ground and all will be revealed.

I am about to embark on making a rag doll, something i havent done for many years. Hence the sewing machine is seeing the light of day for the first time in yonks. It and i have never really been friends. I inherited the machine from hubbys family and i’m not very good with it but im determined to master it.
I can only make rag dolls from kits though as im rubbish at designing. I bought a Tilda doll making kit as the dolls are so gorgeous but have to say how shocked i am by how much they cost and how bad the instructions are.

However i will not be daunted. So wish me luck those of you who can make such beautiful quilts and toys and any tips you have would be much appreciated.

Right better get on dont want to waste my day off waffling to you lot. Ill be along to snoop at your desk soon. Have a great week.

What’s on your workdesk? Wednesday 228

Happy WOYWW everyone. I’m pleased to be back taking part again in this fun, snooping, desk hop Wednesday lark.
Fancy a sneaky peek at clever and crafty peoples desks?, you do? then go visit the Stamping Ground for more information. Julia will guide you through.
This pic is taken late Tuesday evening as i work Wednesday morning and its a bit of a rush otherwise.
You can see my trusty laptop, my Life Story book which I’m having so much fun filling, and a pile of photo albums and other bits.
I’ve been collecting my old pics and papers together to go into my book but i had trouble finding some photos in particular so i braved the creaking ladder and ascended to the loft in search of them. I’m pleased to say i found what I was looking for along with other bits n bobs I haven’t seen in years so you could expect embarrassing photos of me sometime in the future as I haven’t had time to sort through them yet.
No, I’m not making an excuse honest! (hides crossed fingers behind back)
The blue folder on the right also holds valuable documents and photos. For someone who dislikes mess I am very disorganised with my photos and must do better or they may get lost permanently next time.
Don’t forget to stop by some more desks, it’s very addictive and the only time you can be nosy without someone setting the dogs on you or in my case the guinea pigs (don’t mess with Cookie and Teddie)
Till next week

Friday’s Smiles Week 39

Reasons to be cheerful 1, 2, 3…

or so the song goes and i have three reasons to be very cheerful this week.

1.  Whilst searching through some drawers for old photographs the other day i found an old wallet that used to belong to my uncle which my mum kept after his death and used to store old papers and keepsakes in.  Tucked inside one pocket was a letter my dad wrote to her before they were married when he was convalescing after his brain tumour.  I dont know how i never saw it before. It is beautiful and more so because he died when i was just a child so i saw a different side to him than i can now recall. It is going in my Life story book as a very precious momento.

2.  I found my crafting mojo again after many months and am enjoying making things and getting on with the fun side of life. Perhaps now i can finish off those projects which languish in drawers all unloved.

3.. I am proud to be a Great Auntie again for the ninth time! Yes, i know i dont look old enough, its all in the genes dont you know.  Baby Jake was born yesterday all the way over the pond in Australia. I thought you’d love a pic to coo over.

Now thats enough from me so pop over to Annies lovely Friday, smiley, bloggery and join in the fun

Have a great week

easy NO SEW blanket is made

Now that my mojo has been found, hiding in a drawer would you believe, i decided to have a go at the blanket making project i posted about a few weeks back (see post here)
I chose a patterned and a plain fleece for the project so it would have a reversible design.
I layered them and used safety pins to keep them together while i trimmed the edges square.
I made a 4 x 4 inch template to cut off the corners then used it to draw 1 1/4 inch lines down the edge which would be my knotted tassels
Snipping the bottom of the folded tassels was the trickiest part as you dont want the slit to be too large or the knot wont be tight enough.
I carried on like this all around the fleece and finally got this
And the beauty of the whole thing is that it took me less than 2 hours to make. Yes, honest!
I couldnt resist modelling it to test its warmth on a chilly day like today so feel free to have a chuckle
This isnt meant to be a ‘how to’ post as the link to the snapguide above does it much better than me.
I dont know whether to give it away or keep it and snuggle up in it on cold nights in front of the telly whilst munching tasty things.
Decisions, decisions
Give it a go, its so quick and great fun.
Just off now to let my aching fingers recover

Bootfair bargain – update

This was my cabbage patch lady who came to me via a bootfair for 50p (see post for details).
I love rescuing unloved cabbies and bringing them back to life. So, after a good face wash with soap and a spot of Cif (other cleaners are available), a hair wash, a body sponging and some new clothes this is the end result
I am quite pleased with how she looks now, not bad for a doll which was just lying on the floor.  She is all ready to go to her new home, even though i do get attached to my cabbies and hate to see them leave.

My Life Story – 100 year diary

If you’ve ever wanted to write down your memories and thoughts for your children, grandchildren or just yourself you might like one of these
They call it a 100 year diary and it is over 2 inches thick and a beautifully bound hardback book. It has pages for journalling and photographs.  It comes in a nice slip case too.
Its a bit pricey at around £26. I got mine from Amazon as a treat to myself. But it would make a great present for a newborn baby so that the parents can keep a record of it until its old enough to take over or for anyone who wants to record their past or future life.
Im looking forward to getting started with mine.

things to smile about – week 38

Its Friday, its early and its time for….
Friday Smiles!
If you fancy sharing whats made you smile this week then clicky this here LINK to visit Annie’s lovely blog A Stitch in Time for more information. I warn you though it will make you smile, laugh and giggle your head off.
Last Saturday gave me so many smiles my face began to ache. The reason being I finally got to meet a special lady and her family who live in Australia but had come over to the UK for a short visit.
Veronica is my hubbys second cousin who emigrated from UK as a child many moons ago. She is a published author having written three volumes of her families stories which are excellent reads. She also writes a blog
We have been corresponding for many years now so when she mentioned she was coming over last year i knew we had to meet up.
I arranged a family meal at a local pub/restaurant and it was as if we’d known each other all our lives, we got on like a house on fire. I would have loved to have spent more time with them but they had a tight schedule and are now back in Australia.
We laughed and chatted and ate and 3 hours passed in what felt like 5 minutes.  Despite me not being a blood relly to any of them Veronica and I call each other cousins which means a lot to me.

52 weeks of happy – 50/52

Well i think i have come rather late to this lovely idea. Its hosted by Jen at Little birdie
I’ve only just found out about it via another lovely blog called thistlebear. I’m presuming that it may go on for another 52 weeks so here is my first post and some photos of things that have made me happy this last week.
We met these eight lovely people for the first time over the weekend. They are relatives or ‘rellies’ as they call them of my husbands who live in Australia and are over here on a short holiday. We had a smashing meal with them and wished we could have spent longer.
This was my unexpected bootfair bargain from Sunday. 50p for a cabbage patch doll, can’t be bad eh?
Autumn is such a special time ‘the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’ and i love photographing the dew on spiders webs.
This is one of our cats, Domino curled up and cosy on his hammock. We have five cats and they are very theraputic and relaxing.
Hopefully i’ll be doing another one of these posts next week.
