Books read in May

This month I managed to read four books! Thats pretty good for me although one of them was a graphic novel and another one i DNF’d sadly.

Nought & Crosses the graphic novel by Malorie Blackman was sent to me by Penguin Random for review so thanks to them. You can read my full review HERE  I hadn’t read the book before so it was all new to me but i’ll just say briefly that i didnt really enjoy the story much. As this only covers the 1st book in the series of 4 you dont get the full picture. It didnt make me want to read the rest in the series though.

The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow by Katherine Woodfine was sent to me by Egmont in exchange for a review so huge thanks to them. It is awesome! again you can read the full review HERE but I adored this book, it has fab characters, mystery, suspense and humour. What more could you want? and im so pleased to hear there will be a sequel in the pipeline next year.

The Summer of Secrets by Sarah Jasmon was another review copy courtesy of Black Swan books and many thanks to them. I really thought i’d love this book and I did to begin with, the writing style was lovely, descriptions very powerful and i was hooked. However, the main premise of the book about a new family who moves into the area suddenly one summer but then disappear just as quickly was a bit of a let down. I’ll say no more bcause of spoilers but I felt it went on too long and lost the way a bit and I didnt finish it.

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson was a book I bought myself after hearing so much about it but then I won a copy so now have two but if you have to have a duplicate of a book then this is the one to have. Its a stonkingly good read. In fact it is my read of 2015 so far!
I haven’t actually written a review of it because i’m finding it hard putting my thoughts into words. Jandy’s writing is sublime. It takes you right to the heart of the action and the rawness of the story eats into your soul. I can’t speak highly enough of it. I have thought about sharing the love and offering my spare copy for a giveaway but not sure i want to let it go.

Have you read any of these?  What books did you read in May?
